Biography of Timothy O. Sutherland

 

The photographic career of Timothy O. Sutherland documents a lifetime of the love of the Southwest.  His images display a remarkable ability to capture the nuances of the masters and yet define a unique personal style

 

Tim learned his craft as a student of Ansel Adams,  Howard Bond and Hal Gould of the Camera Obscura Gallery in Denver,  Colorado.  Gould's Gallery has represented his original prints in Denver since 1989. 

In 1999 Golden Turtle Press contracted with Tim to produce a premium calendar of his most popular works. The calendar (now sold out) was carried by Amazon.com and major booksellers in the West.

A series of fine art posters have been produced by Tim for the National Park Service, The World Heritage Foundation,  Grand Teton National Park,  Bryce Canyon National Park, Canyonlands National Park,  Canyon De Chelly National Monument,  Southwest Parks and Monuments Association,  Mesa Verde National Park,  and the United States Postal Service

In 1994 the United States Postal Service asked Tim to produce a photograph for the dedication of Canyon De Chelly National Monument on a postage stamp. At the dedication ceremony at Canyon De Chelly, Tim delivered an eloquent speech and was honored by the Navajo Elders for his sensitivity to their culture and heritage and his personal interest in the Canyon De Chelly monument. In January of 2000 he was a co-instructor with Bill Wright in the Santa Fe Photo Workshops 2000 Big Bend Texas Expedition.

Tim currently resides in Abilene, Texas

Tim provides exceptional photographic opportunities during his Four Corners Workshops. He guides participants into the National Parks around the four corners area of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah for some of America's most beautiful scenery. He is sponsored by Ilford Imaging and supported by Hasselblad, Calumet Photographic, Polaroid and Gitzo carbon fiber tripods. The workshops are held in May and September, email Tim for the schedule.
